Ford's Inflatable Seat Belt

Sunday, November 8, 2009 , Posted by Seiken at 2:19 AM

Continuing to develop and adding security to the driving public, Ford is adapting the airbags protection to the seat belts which will also inflate automatically during a crash. Extra protection to your ribs and it will prevent severe internal damages.

It will be introduced on Ford Explorer 4x4 latest model next year.
Sensors in the Explorer will calculate the severity of any impact and inflate the belts with compressed gas, stored below the seat, in 40 milliseconds - the time it takes a car to travel one yard at motorway speed. - dailymail
Actually, it seems this idea is not new anymore but I was surprised that car makers haven't add this safety gadget idea before.
